Range Rover Adds Diesel Option for 2016 Lineup


Range Rover is increasing its fuel economy options by adding V-6 diesel engines to the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models this year. The Range Rover HSE TD6 and Range Rover Sport TD6 with become the newest additions to the line. Parent company Land Rover, has offered diesel engines in Europe, but this is the first time they will be available in the US. The improved fuel economy has helped the V6s and V8s meet ever-increasing government standards.

The Argument for Diesel Engines

Whether the diesel engines will catch on in the U.S. is still in question, as its general popularity is far less than in Europe. Diesel engines are also thought to be noisy and smoky as opposed to gasoline. However, diesel has advantages like the high proportion for torque, which is well suited to the rugged terrain that the Range Rover was built for. The diesel option for the Range Rover V6 offers 32x better fuel economy than its gasoline fueled counterpart, and 28 miles per gallon on the highway.
